Ernst Billgren is a painter, sculptor, graphic artist, author, designer, incessant debater and entertainer. Throughout his career he has questioned the art world and its rigid standards, both by the choice of subject matter in his own imagery, and through books such as "What is art?" and the novel the Committee, a detective story about the Swedish art scene. Through the years, Billgren's own role as an artist has become an important part of his oeuvre.
Ernst Billgren studied at the Valand Art Academy in Gothenburg, with a degree in 1987. Today he is one of Sweden's most celebrated artists and with his role as exalted outsider, he occupies a unique position on the Swedish art scene.
