Zoomed-in, scrutinizing portraits of flowers have become something of the artist Barbro Andersson's signature motifs. But she is not interested in making realistic–she uses the forms of the flowers to find the expression she seeks. Many describe them as almost erotic, or carnal. But Andersson's oeuvre includes not only flower; landscapes and nature are also an given motives. In addition to painting, she has always used different printing techniques, such as dry-point, silkscreen and lithography.
Barbro Andersson is educated at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, with a master’s degree in 1985 and has since been exhibited throughout Sweden, as well as abroad. In 2013, her stay at Villa San Michele, Capri, resulted in a highly appreciated solo exhibition with motifs from the island.
