Rose Eken's works are mainly figurative. She recreates actual objects and places while reformulating; changing scale, proportions and context. Clay is her main means of expression, but she masters a variety of techniques and materials such as painting, embroidery and printmaking. Fan culture is an important source of inspiration, and her own artistic career began when, as a stage worker, she collected trash left behind after a concert; cigarette butts, empty beer cans and forgotten items of clothing, to portray them in clay.
Rose Eken studied at the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland and the Royal College of Art in London, 2003. She has a wide audience in Denmark but has also made acclaimed exhibitions in the USA.
