21 prints by Peter Hahne ar now availabke at ed-art.se. Since the eighties, Hahne has been one of the most influential artists in the Swedish abstract painting movement. In a text about his exhibition at Konsthallen Hishult, he writes: "To create something new without relating to what has been done before, is not possible for me. I relate to a tradition of non-figurative imagery that has its roots in the early 1900s."

A method that often recurs in Hahne's oeuvre is the repetition of simple shapes which are given the same basic shape, but in colour and execution are individual. "The differences grow during contemplation and their distinct form becomes apparent," writes Hahne. "The paintings are not narrative but of course carry my experiences, everything else would be unthinkable. Is it possible, fruitful to paint a number of square fields again, or is it considered to be an area already explored? I have no doubt, and I trust that my paintings give an answer."

"The images often come to me as notions. These are developed during the labour of painting, but sometimes also by a kind of mental movements ". Hahne mentions the Austrian writer Peter Handke as an inspiration, the texts of which coincides with the artist's own thoughts on the contemplation and the wordless charge of images.

Peter Hahne was born in 1955 in Arboga. He today lives and works in Malmö. During the late 1970s he studied at the art academies in Stockholm and Copenhagen. Today he is represented in all the major Swedish museum collections.
