In the acclaimed photo book "Sweden/Schweden", Maria Miesenberger starts out from her childhood in Austria and Sweden. By studying her own family's photo album, she dwells on questions such as the role of the child in the family drama and how this has shaped her as an individual. Childhood, memories and absences are themes that recur in her sculptures and installations, which have been shown in art galleries and museums around Sweden.
Maria Miesenberger has studied photography and painting at the College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm and sculpture at Parsons School of Design in New York. In 2005, she was appointed MMF artist of the year by Märta Måås-Fjetterström AB. In 2009 she received the Anna Nordlander Prize and in 2011, the Swedish Photo Book award for "Sweden/Schweden".
