Johan Björkegren himself says that that he is suffering from "grave drawing Tourettes". But drawing is not his only medium–painting, but also sculpture has infringed his world of drawing. In his artistry, he works in a romantic tradition on topics such as transience, memory, loss and time; a longing for something forever lost. The images often depict barren and desolate landscapes, interiors, façades and scenery where the hidden, forgotten and concealed closes in on the viewer and manifests itself as dark spots, weeds, cracks and wounds. Incomplete images where the unknown rows behind the white paper surface. The images can border on the abstract, performed in an almost ritual repetition of motifs and technology.
Today Björkegren works in Gothenburg, and has had solo exhibitions around Sweden and in Tokyo, Istanbul and Miami. He studied at Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm, graduating in 2005.
