Light is one of the central elements in Astrid Myntekær’s work. She uses the light in her work to evoke a greater sensitivity for space as she points at reality’s abstract structures and immaterial “substances”. The photogravure “Palmstroke” is a caption of a single stroke of lightning in a glass–an image of intricate branching of a natural electric discharge–captured in a photo by Myntekær, to then be transferred photographically to a plate and printed.
Astrid Myntekær studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg, graduating in 2012. In a short time, she has set out exhibiting across Denmark, the rest of Europe and in China, and has received numerous scholarships.
