Swedish artist Astrid Sylwan has named this colorful series of artworks Randas. In the prints there is a dawn, an energy that begins to gain strength, a winter that turns into spring. Read more and see the entire series here
The prints are made at Ateljé Larsen in Helsingborg, one of the foremost printshops for intaglio printmaking in the Nordic region. Here, artists work side by side with skilled printers, who hand print each print after the artist has decided how the edition is to look.
Technique: Photopolymer Edition: 35 Year: 2024 size, paper: 64 x 57 cm size, print: 49,5 x 44 cmAstrid Sylwan usually calls herself a landscape painter, mostly becuase she starts off her paintings with a darker skeleton and then adds colour layer by layer. And it is perhaps not above all to landscapes that the viewer associates with, standing in front of Sylwan's often large-scale and colorful paintings where colour is added to colour in layers that all communicate with and add depth to one another.
After graduating from the University of Arts, Craft and Design in 2005, Astrid Sylwan had her big breakthrough with her drip paintings – basically experiments with color and form, but concentrated around the dripping of the paint over the canvas. Since then, her work has been shown both in Sweden and internationally, and she has been recognized as one of Sweden's most prominent painters today.
