Cecilia Ömalm "Lapis Nubes I"

In the exhibition “Dear Anna”, Cecilia Ömalm has experimented further with the cyanotype and, with the help of bleaching and plant dyeing, has created a dull, earthy color scale with tones of umber and ochre. The exhibition partly consists of images that clearly report which object has been used, in the spirit of the 19th-century botanist and pioneer Anna Atkins. But there are also abstract images where we as viewers cannot immediately understand what we are seeing. It becomes a play with positive and negative, image and image.

Help choosing

We offer two different services to help you choose artwork:

1. Free digital consultation with sketches. Based on images of your walls and your existing art, we put together digital sketch proposals with artwork and frames. Read more

2. Hanging consultation at home including art for 5,000 SEK (in the Stockholm area). During a two-hour visit, we look at and hang all the art you have and how it can be complemented with at least one new work from us. Read more

About Cecilia Ömalm

In her work, Cecilia Ömalm often uses a room, place or a state of being as a starting point. She is perhaps best known for her digital collages–often huge, detailed images in black and white where viewers are invited to peek into mysterious, ominous places. Ömalm bases her work on archive material from all of world history and fuses it to create these symbol-ridden places. In addition, she works with sculpture and photography, always with the investigation of places and rooms as a starting point.

Cecilia Ömalm (b. 1974, Umeå) trained to be a photographer at the International Center for Photography in New York in the late 90s. Since the mid-2000s, she has had a successful career on the Swedish art scene, with a large number of exhibitions and works to be found in the Modern museet collection, among others.
