Björn Wessman

As a contemporary landscape painter, Björn Wessman occupies a special place on the Swedish art scene. His powerful, color-saturated landscapes all have an unmistakable ”wessmanian” character. Nature is the eternal source of inspiration in an oeuvre that often lands right between the concrete and the abstract. He has taken his motifs from France and Sweden, but also Tasmania and Japan; regardless of geography, Wessman captures the unique color scale of the place with inimitable precision.

Björn Wessman (b. 1949) studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, graduating in 1981. He also has background as a student of literature and his work is often accompanied by text. Wessman is represented in all major Swedish museum collections and his exhibition history is extensive, recently with major exhibitions at Millesgården and Waldemarsudde in Stockholm.
