sagor och symboler

fairy tales and symbols

Lisa Lundgren, one of the brightest stars of the young generation of Swedish painters, has made a lithograph. We are happy to present it here on ed-art.se

Lisa Lundgren is drawn to pure fairy tales and symbols. In fairy tales, the difficult is made simple:

– It is the simple that is the difficult. If you find the right expression, something beyond the image happens that remains in the work.

Stages and decor often recur as motifs; sometimes the actual objects and sometimes just the idea of a stage or a piece of a life that is taking place.

– When I was little, my father said, “You go up on stage, take off your hat and bow, then you walk off”

In Lisa Lundgren’s painting, symbols and shapes meet, painted with very thinly applied paint on a raw linen canvas.

– It is not an illusion but it is a fairy tale about reality. No secrets. It is materials that find each other and hopefully some kind of magic occurs.

Gudsomhaver is Lisa Lundgren's first lithograph, but certainly not the last.

– Lithography fits me like a glove. Drawing, the stone, fast, flat, material, color and then the machine! Incredibly powerful schnellpresse Patrick Wagner has got his hands on!
