About Lena Cronqvist

Few artists have drilled as deeply into the Swedish soul as Lena Cronqvist. Her images of, in particular, girls have become iconic. Both exhibitions and theses have been dedicated to her images of the mother, the child and the painter. Throughout all of her career, Cronqvist has worked with printmaking - above all etching and drypoint. In 2011, Grafikens Hus showed an exhibition focusing on Cronqvist’s and copper printmaker Siv Johansson's long and close co-operation.

Lena Cronqvist was born in 1938 in Karlstad. She studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in the early 1960s and had her big breakthrough in the 70s. Since then, she has had a large number of solo exhibitions, including at Waldemarsudde in 2020, Liljevalchs in 2013 and an exhibition in dialogue with Edvard Munch at the Munch Museum in Oslo in 2018.
