Annette Hammaren

For Annette Hammarén, the starting point for a work of art is usually something familiar–a place she knows well, that is important and carries memories. It can be the woods, the grove or the creek. During the creative process, the forest can become impenetrable, the pond deep and dark, the river turned into roaring rapids. Hammarén works with both painting and printmaking. The her printmaking work, is it by the printing press that the magic happens–when the colour is painted or rolled on the plate and the image is created. Many of the Hammarén’s prints are thus unique, because the colour has been added to the plate in different ways for each print.

Annette Hammarén (b. 1956, Stockholm) lives and works in Billsta outside of Stockholm. She studied at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm.
