We are pleased to present David Wiberg's first artworks in print. Wiberg is a well-known name to many, active as a writer, actor, playwright and director, and part of the humor collective Varanteatern. For twenty years now, he has been drawing the Nobel Prize winner in literature every year in Sydsvenska dagbladet.
The three new images are taken from the picture book "Världens snällaste gäng (The Kindest Gang in the World)", which he has both written and illustrated. The book attracted a lot of attention on both cultural pages and in morning sofas when it was released this spring. It was described as an art experience in itself with a vibrant mood between the lines and in the images.
David Wiberg works with a digital collage technique, which is based on scanned paintings, drawings and various types of materials. The motif sphere is influenced by the artist's own upbringing in the council estates of Norra Fäladen in Lund, where brown, beige and grey facades meet sprawling lawns and parking lots. It is the child's world that is depicted – the walk to the sports field with football boots in hand, the tying of shoelaces. There is an ever-present darkness here, but also a light playfulness.
David Wiberg studied at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London and is also a trained architect. The three artworks that are now being released for sale on ed-art.se are his first artworks in an edition.
