We’re glad to have received edition serigraphs by Gfeller+Hellsgård, from whom we previously have only had unique prints. Gfeller+Hellsgård is a French-Swedish artist duo based in Berlin who work with everything from gigantic murals to artists’ books, most often using the silkscreen printing technique as a medium.
The duo moves freely between the figurative and the abstract. The artworks often grow out of a place, a material or a story. The new editions contain representational elements depicting plants. These took shape during a residency in Joshua Tree, where the dry, strange nature triggered something organic and experimental.
– The editions sometimes resemble our artists’ books, says the duo. In them, we use illustration, comics and photography in a fairly free way. Our visual art projects draw more on the abstract. But these expressions talk to each other, sometimes clash, and start new tracks. It all depends on the place we are in, and what we want to explore at that moment.
