Gallery weekend 2026 – Jasmin Daryani
During Gallery Weekend 2026, ed. art will present Immolation, a new exhibition of artworks by artist Jasmin Daryani.
Immolation builds upon Daryani’s project Index, which was featured in the 2025 exhibition Här är vi nu (Here We Are Now) at Sven-Harrys artmuseum in Stockholm. In Index, the migratory bird serves as the focal point for an exploration of migration and mobility. Taking the visual language of the Swedish passport—which incorporates migratory birds as national symbols—as a starting point, Daryani employs UV printing on glass. By bringing together the bird motif and the security technology found in passports, she examines how imagery, identity, and national belonging are intertwined with the control of human mobility.

Jamin Daryani (born 1988 in Teheran) is based in Stockholm and works at the intersection of photography, film, and poetry. She has studied at Konstfack, the School of Photography in Gothenburg, and the University of Westminster in London. In 2016, she was awarded the Maria Bonnier Dahlin Grant. In her artistic practice Daryani explores questions of power, migration, and belonging, with a focus on displacement, rootlessness, and survival. Her work moves freely between various media and forms of expression.

In Immolation—presented at ed. art during Gallery Weekend Stockholm—Daryani works with screen printing, silver nitrate, and gunpowder. She explores how images can emerge, transform, and be destroyed. Motifs are built up in layers, shifted, and obscured. Photographic fragments encounter reflective surfaces and material traces of physical events. The result is a body of work in which the image is neither fully visible nor entirely lost, but rather exists in a state of dissolution and return.
