Regardless of technique, method or expression, Andréa Hösel's work has its starting point in her relationship to colours. Printmaking plays a specific role in her artistic process, intuitive and unconditional. The hand, chance and the eye together create an image where colours and forms coexist. It becomes an abstract idiom with contours and patterns that are added to the print subsequently.
There are now new monotypes, i.e. unique prints, on ed-art.se. Monotype is a printing technique where the artist works directly on an untreated plate or sheet of plexi. The printing ink i applied straight on this plate. It is then run through a printing press against a sheet of paper, the ink is thus transferred to the paper. Since there are no specific marks made in the plate where the ink sticks, the artist cannot repeat the exact same image, which makes the print unique.
Andréa Hösel studied at the Royal Institute of Arts in Stockholm and lives and works in the Swedish capital. In the studio, she focuses on painting or builds large site-specific installations where different materials take on the role of color and shape in the room.
