Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd
1934-2016
The Swedish visual artist and author Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd is probably best known for the public bronze sculpture Non-Violence. The work represents a revolver with a knot on the pipe and is erected in several places around the world. But Reuterswärd created works in several media; both classical materials such as painting and sculpture, but also laser and holograms. He didn’t stick to a specific genre or style, but painted geometric works as well as humorous and conceptual ones. Reuterswärd's works are often simple, direct, colorful and powerful.
In 1951, Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd began his studies for the artist Fernand Léger in Paris, followed by studies at the Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm. Reuterswärd is represented in numerous museum collections worldwide, including those of MOMA in New York and Center Pompidou in Paris.
