return of the grumpy old man

return of the grumpy old man

Ulla Wennberg's "grumpy old men" (surgubbar) have been part of ed. art's catalogue since the start in 2014. They are comical, ingenious and angry. The four of them capture the grumpy old man's being both in image and word, titled "Fucking feminists", "The only way forward", "The crown of creation" and "The Mayor".

When Ulla Wennberg graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1976, printmaking was the primary mode of expression for young artists. Art was for the people. Questioning social structures and multiplying the prints to spread the message as widely as possible was considered to be one of art's most important missions. That is why Ulla Wennberg still today works with unlimited editions, which means that she hand-prints more prints when needed. The black and white "grumpy old men" are hand-printed on thin Japanese paper.

Now we have also received a few hand-colored artworks from Ulla Wennberg. The black lines are again hand-printed, but this time on a thicker paper so that the artist has been able to watercolor certain areas. These prints are thus unique, even if prints with the same color scheme exist.
