reflexion
Whatever he takes on, Emil Holmer is always attempting to invent form as a painter in a post-modern era. His new series of silkscreen prints are the result of a complex process where hazard interplays with the artist’s conscious choices.
The prints are based on a method of reflection and copying. In an initial state metallic mirror foil is burnt, perforated, folded and heated with hot glue and plastic to create different structures. It is then scanned in a normal scanner, where the foil throws the light back and creates a visual disturbance. These visual waveforms constitute a structure in the images.
The waveforms are juxtaposed with other structures, flat abstract shapes and drawings, that oscillate between sign and figure, writings and organic forms. The final compositions are enlarged, rasterized and printed with silkscreen print on paper.
