persian vintage

In her new project "Persian Vintage", Raha Rastifard embarks on an attempt to portray part of the cultural heritage and artistic treasures in Iran through an innovative printing technique.

The series is based on particularly famous ancient Persian carpets and buildings, part of the cultural-historical treasure of Persian civilization. The images that Rastifard has created from these are corroded, shattered and mirrored; fragments of a rich and complex history. The images are abstracted and fragmented - sometimes present, sometimes fading. The mirroring technique used by the artist also have a historical background, extensively used in Persian architecture for more lavish constructions of the last centuries.

The series is hand-printed by the artist at the Artists' Collective Workshop in Stockholm with lithographic technique. The original image is transferred to a printing plate, which is colored by means of a roller rolled in several different inks. This creates soft gradients in the image and leads to in a slight variation in the edition.
