ojanen awarded

Congratulations to Jakob Ojanen who was awarded the 2019 Åke Andrén scholarship of SEK 500,000. The scholarship is Sweden's largest and is awarded to a younger, promising artist since 2011. This is the jury's motivation:

“In his rich artistic work, Jakob Ojanen (b. 1980) includes a number of different techniques and media such as painting, sculpture and installation art. He uses, among other things, urban objects and expressions in an interesting and meaningful way, in an exploration of social contexts, citizenship and identity creation in our time. Objects in the urban space such as paving stones, forgotten and insignificant things, removed graffiti and the digital world are used and combined in unexpected ways and are given new meanings and intriguing expressions in his sculptures and installations. Jakob Ojanen is also innovative as a painter, where he explores materiality and the way we look at the characteristics and conditions of painting. His sculptural works, installations and painting all appear as distinctive and highly expressive, both visually and conceptually."

The award ceremony is followed by a scholarship exhibition at Waldemarsudde, which runs from October 15 to November 17, 2019. More about the exhibition here
