maximum minimalism
We are pleased to present a series of intaglio prints by Anders Sletvold Moe, one of the foremost Norwegian artists of his generation. In his works, Sletvold Moe examines painting's relationship to its three-dimensional surroundings with minimalism as a guiding light. He often bypasses the traditional canvas and intervenes directly in the room b. He can do so by means of cutting or drilling directly into walls, or creating three-dimensional effects with the help of light, reflections and surfaces on a wall. Always with great awareness of – and often a nod to – the predecessors in the minimalist tradition.
The Kvadratisk sekvens (Square Sequence) series consists of a square shape that rotates 90 degrees over a series of four images: A, B, C and D.
- It is a rhythmic composition where the twisting of the same shape appears very differently depending on where the black and gray fields are in the rotating sequence.
– I have also worked with how the shape relates to and is placed on the sheet of paper. Kvadratisk sekvens is also typical of how I relate to the serial and repetitive in my works.
The series' four images are printed in editions of 20 copies each. They have been produced in collaboration with Ateljé Larsen in Helsingborg, Sweden's leading intaglio workshop.
Anders Sletvold Moe studied at Malmö School of Art but today lives and works in Oslo. His work can be found in several important collections such as the Malmö Art Museum, the Swedish Arts Council and the Uppsala Art Museum.
