atelier landberg
In October, the next ed.itions project will be launched: a series of silkscreen prints by artist Cilla Ramnek, in collaboration with printer Catarina Landgren. In preparation, a visit was paid to Atelier Landberg, the family's print workshop in Aspudden outside of Stockholm. This is where Ingvar Landberg has created high quality silkscreen prints since the mid seventies, together with some of Sweden's most wellknown artists.
Cilla Ramnek examines the paper, 600 gr hand-made, made in France.
Ingvar Landberg's business partner Dick Helgesson shows Cilla Ramnek the drafting film on which the artist creates the work, later to be transferred photographically to the screen.
This is where the drafting film on which the artist has drawn is exposed to UV light together with the screen. The screen is treated with photsensitive emulsion, and this will transfer the image from the film to the screen. The darker parts of the film will be the parts of the screen that let the colour run through. Cilla Ramnek, Ingvar Landberg and Dick Helgesson.
The triangular shape was cut out and placed in the window of the workshop, facing south, to test the durability of the colours. It was forgotten and not remembered until about five years later, when the paper was removed from the window and reconnected with the other part which had been stored in a drawer. To the printer's delight, no difference at all can be seen.
The frames on which the screens are stretched. One screen/frame for each colour, but by using colours that are not fully opaque, the artist and printer can create a large variation in tone with only a few screens.
In the storage, traces of 40 years of activity can be seen.
