almost there

During Affordable Art Fair, 1-4 October 2015, ed. will launch four new silkscreen prints by artist Cilla Ramnek. They have been produced during the summer together with printer Catarina Landberg and are published in the ed.itions series, ed.’s own publishing of art prints.

The prints are in editions of 30 and can be hung together in a square, or each one separately.

– I have never before worked with silk screen printing, but think I'm a little psychic. Three weeks before I was asked, I went and bought a book about silkscreen, says Cilla Ramnek. I have all that in me, from my textile background.

In the prints, we meet Ramnek’s very own imagery.
– I always work abstract, although one can discern details from everyday life, like a sweater or a chair, in my pictures. However, the abstract is not disconnected from reality. If one imagines that the eyes are a camera, they photograph a variety of compositions each time they are opened. I processes those compositions and insert them into my pictures. What looks abstract is actually real, it's just that I reproduce it with my own alphabet.

Making edition works has long attracted Cilla Ramnek.

– I like the democratic thought, that art becomes accessible to more people. I always try to work in a way that allows me to reach out to many. I have a decorative layer in my work so that many people can like them, but that does not mean I'm not serious. I like to say "I'd rather be inclusive than exclusive"!
