About frames

Johanna Schartau works with photography, sculpture, collage, drawing, printmaking and has also made several award-winning documentaries – including “Grandmother Ruth and her daughters” – who have been shown at film festivals around the world and broadcast on Swedish public television. Johanna Schartau works thematically, often evolving around her own family history, but also where history plays an important part. She draws inspiration from what is around her; pictures, texts, memories, nature.

Johanna Schartau is represented in several public collections such as the Swedish Arts Council and Malmö Art Museum, and has also worked on public commissions. She has a master's degree in textile art from Konstfack, and has since added courses in printmaking, video and sculpture at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm.
