"Expect nothing ingratiating. It requires time and patience to spend time with Arne Charlez." Thus wrote artist Jan Håfström once in a review of an Arne Charlez exhibition at the Thiel Gallery in Stockholm. In his paintings, Charlez worked with whims and impulses; the road never was paved. This gave rise to the free and spirited style of painting that towards the end of his career became his hallmark.
Arne Charlez studied at Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm between 1959 and 1964, and thereafter worked throughout his life on the Swedish art scene. From 1989 he was a member of the Academy of Fine Arts. The silkscreen prints at ed. are from Charlez’s printmaker Ateljé Landberg.
