Many have been scratching their heads over Martin Thelanders art. How should we understand it? So serious and yet so full of humor. Thelander works in thematic series, often consisting of simple text message, with different starting points. He himself says that he claims something and then immediately turns away and leaves the work to the viewer. What is missing is an agreement on how the work should be interpreted. The tension and the uncertainty created by the lack of communication, becomes an important part of the artwork.
Martin Thelander received his master's degree from the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Stockholm in 1999. Since then he has exhibited around Sweden and received a number of important grants.
